The Medical Staff at California Pacific

The Medical Staff at California Pacific Medical Center has over 1500 physicians and allied health practitioners. The Medical Staff provides expertise in virtually all areas of medicine, representing over 79 specialties, including obstetrical care, high-risk obstetrics, newborn critical care, organ transplants, women’s health, neurological disorders, orthopaedic and sports medicine, urological disorders, primary care, ophthalmology, cancer, otolaryngology, integrative medicine, plastic and microsurgery, just to mention a few. Board certification is a requirement of medical staff membership. For a complete list of services see our Service Directory.

The Medical Staff Leadership is responsible for the overall organization of the Medical Staff and for its self-governance. The purpose of the Medical Staff is to:

    • promote and maintain high quality patient care
    • strive to maintain and improve the quality of care rendered by all practitioners
    • provide an educational setting
    • strive for cooperation among clinical services
    • maintain an open and mutually respectful dialogue with the medical staff at large, Administration and Hospital Board of Directors.

The Medical Staff Leadership is elected by the Active Medical Staff to represent their collective voice and interests. The Medical Staff Leadership is composed of the Medical Staff Officers (Chief of Staff, Vice Chief of Staff, Secretary and Treasurer,) and Members-at-Large of the Medical Staff. These positions are elected positions with a two (2) year term of office beginning on January 1st after the election.

Medical Staff Leadership includes 19 Department Chairs selected through an extensive Medical Staff committee process and approved by the Board of Directors and have a term of office up to five years with a maximum of three (3) consecutive terms.

The Officers, Members at Large, and Department Chairs meet on a regular basis as the Medical Executive Committee (MEC). The MEC works in collaboration with Administration, Nursing, and the Hospital Board to ensure quality of care and patient safety.
