The Institute for Health & Healing is the largest integrative medical center in the nation with over 30 practitioners and doctors practicing more than 15 holistic therapies. It was created to support healing and healthier ways of living, both for individuals and communities. The Institute was founded in 1994 by joining three long-standing programs at California Pacific Medical Center in San Francisco. California Pacific Medical Center is the largest private, not-for-profit medical center in California and a Sutter Health affiliate. It is a tertiary referral center, providing access to advanced medical care with a patient-centered focus.

Today, the Institute offers services at three other hospitals in San Mateo and Marin Counties in the San Francisco Bay Area. At Marin General and Novato Community Hospital in the North Bay Area, these programs have a long and rich history. Our newest partner,Mills-Peninsula Health Services, is located just south of San Francisco. Mills-Peninsula offers classes, a store and self care services from therapeutic massage to Watsu pool therapy.

Leading a National Trend
Hospitals all over the country are adding integrative health services to their programs, and the Institute is at the forefront of this emerging field. The first integrative medicine clinic certified by the State of California, the Institute for Health & Healing is staffed with board–certified, Western-trained physicians and expert clinicians who are specially trained in integrative practices. The Institute was recently named the top hospital-based holistic health center on the West Coast and was recognized as a national leader in integrative medicine by Natural Health magazine—with the result that California Pacific Medical Center was designated “America’s Healthiest Hospital.” We serve more than 50,000 patients a year through our comprehensive care, education, and research programs.
